There is something about when your kids are sick, I mean really sick, that will bring a grown man to tears. Well it happened again for us. For those that don't know Jessica, after she was born stop breathing and spent two weeks in the NICU fighting to breathe. Seeing her everyday hooked up to so many machines and her being so little. It made us both cry. But today, she made her daddy cry again. Jessica has been fighting a cold for a couple of months now. She had an ear infection prior to the end of 2007 that but cleared up nicely. Well in the last few days she took a turn for the worse and has been miserable for a couple of days. She threw up the once and has been running a fever off and on. Yesterday she woke up really early complaining of her ear hurting again, and had the worst cough. After a few breathing treatments at home, daddy finally took her to the doctor. Several more breathing treatments there and a chest x-ray at the hospital brought the doctor to the conclusion that she needed to be admitted to the hospital. Those words alone were enough to bring daddy to tears. After a very long 8 hours in the hospital and mommy being thrown up on, we finally got the clearance to go home. Although they didn't admit her, they did determine that she has RSV. RSV is the Respiratory Syncytical Virus, it is the most common cause of bronchiolities and pneumonia in children. Luckily, we got it early enough we just have to treat the symptoms i.e fever. She does have to have breathing treatments every 4 hours which luckily we can do at home, but other wise we are in for a rough couple of days until things start to get better. Which we hope they do.
Jessica has finally come to the conclusion that she hates the hospital and hates anyone that looks like they might be a doctor, nurse, or anyone that looks like them.
